Traveling Team: Tallahassee Wildcats

The Tallahassee Wildcats were a guard-oriented club ravaged by injuries a year ago. Now, with a fairly unknown scorer as the team's go-to guy, John Adkins is confident this group will help return the Tallahassee club back to national prominence.

Admittedly, last year was not the type of season that John Adkins and the Tallahassee Wildcats expected.

This year will be different.

A year ago, Adkins & Co. went into the spring loaded with guards – Darius Washington, Taurean Green, Cornelius Ingram and Alex Gordon. However, Washington was injured for much of the spring and summer, Green bounced back and forth between a couple teams and Ingram had football obligations.

Junior wing Alex Ruoff, a somewhat unknown nationally, will be the go-to guy for the Wildcats this summer and unlike a year ago, there will be plenty of size. South Miami 6-10, 245-pound junior Abdul Herrera will start in the middle and 6-9, 220-pound power forward Ryan Reid will start at the four.

``I think Alex might be better than Rashad Anderson," Adkins said. "He can really shoot it and also put it on the floor. He reminds me a lot of Mike Miller."

The backcourt will feature juniors Sean Morrison and Jermonte Bush.

``No one really knows how good Jermonte is, but he put up 51 in the regional semis and shot 55 percent from the field," Adkins added. "I'd be surprised if there are five guards under 6-feet better than him in the country. He's the guy that's going to surprise everybody."

The Wildcats will also have a blend of youth and size coming off the bench. Cardinal Gibbons 6-9 junior Hyman Taylor, who grew a foot over the past 16 months, should see extensive playing time – as will sophomore wings Aaron Holmes and Calvin Liptrot. Also look for 6-3, 170-pound wing guard Gary Clark to establish himself as one of the top freshman in the state. Junior Jimmy Sutton will give these guys yet another big body to rotate in and out of the lineup.

``A lot of our guys aren't household names, but it's because they haven't really played on the national circuit yet," said assistant coach Matt Ramker. "We have five or six really good post players that are all among the best in the state of Florida."
