Boykin is one of the hardest-working players in the class and should see some time at the small forward spot in an effort to improve his perimeter game. Hoerner, from Fullerton High, is a big guy with a soft touch who can alter shots and also run the court.
``We work so well together," Boykin said of Hoerner. "I love having him on my team because if they double-team me when I penetrate, I just give it to him. He has great hands and finished everything."
Wilkes could see action at selected tournaments, including the Kingwood Classic, with Belmont Shore, but he may not spend the majority of the summer playing alongside Boykin and Hoerner.
The backcourt will feature 6-3, 175-pound combo guard Ed White, a shooter forced to play the point for Harvard-Westlake this past season, and Matt Thomas – a 6-4 senior at Riverside King who will likely spend next season at prep school.
The final starting spot will likely go to 6-8 sophomore forward James Cawthorne out of Villa Park. Sophomore point guard Joseph Johnson and 6-3 junior Sekoure Henry, a lefty shooter, will come in off the bench. Don't be surprised to see Harvard-Westlake 6-3 freshman Kieran Ramsey in the mix as well.
``We have great chemistry and leadership," Coach Dinos Trigonis said. "It's a great group of kids. Jamal Boykin is a phenomenal individual outside of basketball. You won't find a better kid. He's really improved and has had to endure playing second fiddle to Josh Shipp, even though he averaged 20 points and 12 rebounds this year."
``We just need to make sure that we play together instead of having one guy trying to win it themselves," Boykin added. "But I think we should have a good team this year."
