"Based on one practice, I'm really excited about them," Benson said last Wednesday. "They're all great kids. That means my job is a lot easier. As far as individual talent goes, that's of no real concern to me because I don't have scholarships to offer. I'll leave that up to the guy who have scholarships."
The Travelers should be a good draw for college coaches because they've got a few big names and a few lesser known prospects who are big kids.
"We're big, real big," Benson said. "I think it's an advantage of the kid, I don't know about the team. Size gives you one up."
Though not household names, guys like forwards Matthew Dotson, Daniel Puckett and Tyler Webb bear watching. On some level they are Division I guys and spring is the time to see where they fall.
"I've never seen him play against people who can sit down in front of him and frustrate him," Benson said of Gordon. "He's going to see that soon and how he handles that will determine how good he'll be." The scuttlebutt about Gordon is that he'll be a Top 25 kid in the junior class. He'll also run some point for the Travelers.
"I've got a bunch of big kids who can run and I think there's a chance that there could be some surprises from this team."
