Traveling Team: Pump 'N Run

This year's Pump 'N Run squad has a lot to live up to if they are to match last year's team, but they certainly have some talented players. Now it's just a matter of meshing together.

If the most important elements are a good point guard and a quality big man, Pump ‘N Run should be in good shape.

Alaskan junior floor leader Mario Chalmers is one of the top point guards in the nation and he'll have one of the top frontcourt guys on the coast at his disposal in 6-9, 200-pound Jordan Wilkes.

The rest of the starting lineup will feature 6-6 senior Nick Young, who is likely head to prep school next year, and 6-8, 215-pound sophomore power forward Alex Stephenson as well as 6-foot junior guard Jonathan Gibson.

There will be plenty of talent coming off the bench with junior point guard Brian McTear and a trio of guys who are also headed to the prep ranks next year – 6-7 forward Evan Harris and 6-3 guards Jonathan Tolliver and Lorenzo Keeler.

``Chemistry will be a key," said David Pump. "Last year we had great leadership with Jordan Farmar and Bryce Taylor. Lorenzo Mata came out of nowhere, but the chemistry was the key why we were able to beat the Atlanta Celtics twice."

``This year's team is a big question because I don't know if they'll have the same kind of leadership," added Pump. "They are all good kids, but we'll just have to see if they rise to the occasion."
