Tyrus Thomas Signs The Papers

Baton Rouge (LA) McKinley senior forward Tyrus Thomas made a decision on Wednesday. He'll stay at home to play in the SEC.

Behind the scenes, LSU had moved into a position of strength with Baton Rouge (LA) McKinley forward Tyrus Thomas. On Wednesday, the Bengal Tigers officially solidified their relationship with Thomas and signed him.

Thomas, a 6-8 forward, said he had narrowed his decision to a pair of schools: LSU and Miami. Though it seemed like it took him a long time to decide, Thomas said he knew weeks ago where he'd go.

"Actually, I really and truly was concentrating on the season and putting all the recruiting on the side. I narrowed it down to LSU and Miami. I made my decision about a month and a half ago when I heard there was a possibility that the Miami coach was going to get fired. Once he did, I committed to LSU like three weeks ago."

Thomas is lightly built forward who will need to put some weight on as soon as possible. He'll be used in a variety of ways at LSU.

"They'll use me at the three and maybe at the two. Even at the four. It'll be all around. I just have to work on my strength and conditioning. I've been working on my shooting a lot too. I might have to take someone smaller down low."

Thomas is excited about being part of what could be a bright future at LSU.

"With what's coming back and the recruits this year, I honestly think we could make it to the Sweet 16 and maybe the Final Four. That's how I see it."
