McCandies Picks Charleston

Philip McCandies transferred out of Virginia Tech and into a Southern Conference program. After making an official visit last weekend, he's headed south.

Philip McCandies, a 6-9, 200 pound sophomore out of Virginia Tech, committed to the College of Charleston Sunday night. The native of Winston-Salem, N.C., will have two years of eligibility remaining after he sits out next season.

"I got back [from the visit] and we talked about it and I was thinking about the other schools," McCandies said. "We looked at my options and who had the best situation. We decided on College of Charleston because I liked the coaching staff and he's got a good program down there. It's a winning program and he's looking to go to bigger and better places."

McCandies said he considered Dayton, East Carolina, Marshall, Miami-OH, Kent State and UNC-Greensboro.

McCandies thinks that sitting out a year will help him redefine his game and get ready for his final two years of college basketball.
