Spears To Wait Until The Spring
Count Aaron Spears as one of those exceptions to the rule. Normally, kids who make commitments go ahead and sign in the fall with the program they selected. That isn't going to be the case with Spears.
"I'm just letting my options open back up," Spears said. His commitment to Ohio State is now null and void. Apparently, the Buckeyes wanted him to attend prep school for a year and that wasn't in his plans.
Though he's not currently a qualifier, Spears is working towards boosting his academic standing and isn't juiced about the idea of attending a prep school. "My mom just didn't feel right about the deal," Spears said.
So, he's going to open his recruitment back up and will decide in the spring. Should he get his academics on track, he'll be an extremely attractive target. "I did real good on the last report card. I'm waiting on a test score."
Prior to committing to Ohio State, Spears had considered Illinois, Wisconsin and West Virginia. Right now, the Buckeyes are not under consideration. The powerful 260 pounder is a work in progress, but one that will be really attractive come the spring when it's realized that kids over 6-8 are at an all-time premium.
