Ayers On His Irish Commitment

Germantown Academy junior shooting guard Ryan Ayers made his collegiate decision on Wednesday. He'll play for the Fightin' Irish.

Ryan Ayers, a 6-5 ½ shooting guard out of Germantown Academy in Pennsylvania, committed to Notre Dame on Wednesday. Ayers picked the Irish over the Virginia Cavaliers.

"It was really tough because they're both great schools and they have great programs both athletically and academically," Ayers said. "I went with my gut and it ended up Notre Dame."

Ayers, the son of former Philadelphia 76ers head coach Randy Ayers, said dad did a good job with him during the process and new when to turn the decision over to him.

"He did help me in a way that he backed off on me. He told me the positives and negatives about each school and he didn't pressure me and that made the decision much easier."

In South Bend, look for Ayers to play the shooting guard and possibly some small forward. Either way, he knows he fits into the plans of Mike Brey.

"They see me playing on the perimeter and helping the team. They see me as a good shooter and a person who knows the game well and they see me in their plans."
