Hurricanes Land Senior Forward

The Miami Hurricanes have their second commitment under head coach Frank Haith. This time, the Canes head man went into the familiar state of Texas for a big man.

It didn't take Longview (TX) High forward Raymond Hicks long to decide on his future. After visiting Miami last weekend, Hicks made his decision.

"He's going to have his press conference [Wednesday] but it's leaked out already," Raymond Hicks Sr. said Tuesday evening.

Hicks picked Miami after hearing from Baylor, Texas A&M, Tulsa and Indiana.

Haith, the former Texas associate head coach, went into Texas for the first time since leaving. His first recruit was Antoine Mayhand, a guard out of Washington, D.C.

Hicks' family was enthusiastic about getting with Miami during the coach's first year. "In my opinion, the situation was really good for him and Coach Haith and Coach Fuller were very impressive."

Hicks made a name for himself by playing well this spring with the Texas Blue Chips. However, was able to get a lot done last season when he was named to the Texas High School Basketball Coaches Association All-Stars.

His father says don't call him a late bloomer. "I think he was just sought after late."

Hicks' high game this year was 42 points and he's the school's career scoring leader with 1,487 points.
