Final 2004 West Coast Rankings: Power Forwards

Lorenzo Mata, Maarty Leunen and Josh Heytvelt are among the top West Coast power forwards in the class of 2004...

The class of 2004 power forwards is a fairly solid group, with several high major prospects at the top and decent depth throughout the list. Heytvelt is the clear-cut choice for the top ranking, due to his overall skill level, great frame and upside. Vastly underrated by some national analysts, we think Heytvelt has a chance to be a pro. Mata is a hard-worker who should fill a role at UCLA. A very good rebounder and shot-blocker, Mata has just begun to develop his skills facing the basket. Leunen's strength is his versatility. He's a solid rebounder, good shooter out to the stripe and a very good passer. He should be a very effective player in Oregon's offense. Rothbart has always had pretty good perimeter skills and now he's started to add weight and strength. If he's willing to play in the post, he could be an effective force for Indiana (assuming he pulls his name out of the draft). Hernandez is another power forward who prefers to play facing the basket. He's got a nice touch to about 18-20 feet and moves well for his size.
