Pack Holds Early Edge

Shannon, Miss., is home to one of the most talked about players of the spring/summer period. If you haven't heard about Courtney Fells, you will soon.

The book on Courtney Fells, a 6-5 wing out of Shannon (Miss.) High, is that he's a big time kid with a fine stroke from downtown. He debuted in's rankings at No. 50 last week.

Fells began heating up at the Kingwood Classic when he rained 3-pointers on the opening night of the tournament. Right now, high-majors are lining up to get in the mix. One of schools, North Carolina State, has already had him on campus officially.

"It was wonderful," Fells said of the visit. "The people were friendly, the program and facilities, everything was great."

Fells said that N.C. State was recruiting him the hardest and they are the school everyone has to catch. "They've been leading for a long time."

The Wolfpack's lead will get put to the test in August when Fells gets himself out and about on the unofficial visit circuit. During that time, LSU, Georgia Tech and possibly Ole Miss will receive visits. His list reads NC State, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Maryland, Georgia Tech, Kansas and Texas.

There's no question that Fells will have his pick of schools. So, what will he be looking for in a college or coach? "Someone to be there for me through thick and thin. I want them to push me and be concerned about my education.

"I'm an off guard. I love to shoot the 3."
