West Coast Pre-Summer Rankings: Small Forwards

The 2005 West Coast small forwards include such prospects as Martell Webster, Micah Downs, Marcus Johnson and D'Andre Bell, among others...

The small forward list in the west has a couple of elite players at the top, but not a lot of depth this year. Webster has been hurt a couple times this past year, but he showed last summer that he was clearly the top small forward in the west. He's got a great frame, very good athleticism and a nice shot. Downs is long and lean, with a very versatile game. A good athlete, he can shoot the three as well as finish strong inside. Johnson is the most explosive athlete in the class. He's got a great basketball body and a big upside. His skills still need improvement if he's to develop into an elite prospect. Bell is one of the more improved players in the class. His outside shot is solid, he handles the ball well and he's got a nice frame. Gurganious is an explosive slasher and perhaps the equal of Johnson in terms of athleticism. If Gurganious can improve his jumpshot, he has a chance to be recruited at a high level.
