Jaron Griffin On Verge of Commitment

Not too many on the national front know all that much about Jaron Griffin, but the New Jersey forward has a well-rounded game and is one of the most underrated players in the country. The 6-6 rising senior is ready to make an announcement.

Manchester (N.J.) 6-6, 200-pound junior forward Jaron Griffin will likely make an announcement in the next week that he will play at Rutgers.

The unheralded and underrated Griffin will choose Rutgers over URI and West Virginia. Maryland has also shown interest of late.

``Most likely," Griffin said when asked if a commitment to Rutgers was forthcoming. "I'm trying to get it out of the way and they have shown me that I'm their priority."

``I went up there for an unofficial," he added. "I talked to the players and love everything about the program."

Griffin, who said that his stepfather is handling the timing of the announcement, is a major steal for the Scarlet Knights. He really hasn't had a chance to be seen on the national circuit all that much with the New Jersey All-Stars. He's a strong player who some feel is a tweener, but Griffin has not only shown the ability to get to the basket and rebound as well as many power forwards, but he can also knock down the perimeter shot and put the ball on the floor.
