Sylla Makes His Mark
From the opening tip on Friday night, it was almost clear that this was not Berkshire's weekend. In Saturday's third-place game, Our Savior drilled Berkshire 88-68.
Junior forward Oumar Sylla was single-handedly responsible for the devastation. He hit for 30 points and had been coming off a subpar showing in Friday's loss to Mount Zion. Sylla was terrific. He made 5 threes in the contest and showed much more skill than he had in the previous game. He ran, leapt, dunked and made shots from all over the court. He also defended extremely well.
The first half was a foul-marred affair. Berkshire's big gun, Kevin Young, fouled out but finished with a team-high 20 points. Down low, the youngsters for Our Savior couldn't handle him. However, Young must continue to improve his touch from close range. He could have tallied 30 points if he had converted around the rim.
Berkshire did not make a three-point shot in the game. But, it didn't matter because Sylla was just too good in this one.
