Kately Commits, Doesn't Sign

California is slowly but surely assembling a stellar recruiting class. Now with four players committed, Ben Braun has assembled an outstanding 2002 recruiting class.

Kately Commits, Doesn't Sign

San Francisco (CA) Riordan small forward Marquis Kately ranks as one of the Top 100 players in the country. Late last week, he made a decision.

"He gave a verbal to Cal," Kately's mother said. "He's waiting for his SAT scores."

Ah, SAT scores. Therein lies the reason Kately didn't sign during the fall period. He's yet to qualify so there's really no rush to get him to pen his name to a letter of intent. If he fails to qualify, there is a backup plan that will be employed.

According to his mother, the ideal is obviously for him to get qualified and attend Cal next season. Should that not happen, he'd attend a prep school for a year before matriculating.

Kately is good enough for Cal to wait on. He joins point guard Richard Midgely; power forward David Paris and small forward Kennedy Winston in the Golden Bears recruiting class. Three of the four players are ranked among the Top 100 prospects in the country.
