Asbury Headed To Miami

The Miami Hurricanes are off to a good start in terms of their 2005 recruiting. Frank Haith's Hurricanes snared a commitment from one of the state's top prospects Monday morning.

Brian Asbury, a 6-foot-6 perimeter player from Miami (FL) South Miami, committed to the program after considering Florida.

"I just wanted to go to UM," Asbury said. "As soon as Coach Haith came and we started talking, he caught my interest.

"The first time I met coach we had a relationship with each other. The thing that made us click is that he's a down to earth person."

Asbury caught the attention of college recruiters with his performance in Las Vegas in April when he helped the South Florida Heat go deep in a tournament during the open period.

Asbury, a solid athlete with range behind the arc, will be a versatile player in Coral Gables. "Basically, coach told me that I'll play the point guard to the small forward."

Asbury is Miami's first recruit in the Class of 2005. The Hurricanes move into the ACC next season.
