Walton Makes His Pick

Travis Walton, a 6-foot-2 senior out of Lima (Ohio) Lima Senior, is headed to the Big Ten. On Wednesday, Walton picked up the phone and made his decision.

The Michigan State Spartans targeted Travis Walton and on Wednesday, Tom Izzo got his man. After camping at Michigan State last week, the Spartans offered and Walton, a senior out of Lima (Ohio) Lima Senior, accepted.

"I think his No. 1 quality they like is his ability to guard people," Lima Senior coach Mark Gaffney said.

Gaffney said that Izzo feels like Walton bears a resemblance to former Spartan guard Eric Snow. Last year, Walton scored his 1,000th career point. He was the player of the year in his league as he averaged 20 points and 5 assists in leading his team to an undefeated season in league play.

Like we said, he made his mark as a defender but in recent viewings, Walton has shown an improved jump shot and really is a guy who can lead a team. He'll contend for Top 100 status after the summer.

Marquette posed a challenge to the Spartans but Izzo was able to seal it last week. "He went to team camp [last] weekend and Coach Izzo expressed how much he wanted Travis and it sealed [the deal] in his head."
