Cali Forward Getting More Interest

Diamon Simpson, the 6-7 forward from Hayward(Calif.) High, had a good Nike Camp performance and is getting interest from the Pac-10, Atlantic 10, Mountain West and more...

Diamon Simpson, the 6-7 senior power forward, Hayward (Calif.) High, has really seen his stock improve this spring and summer. He turned in an impressive performance at the Nike Camp in Indianapolis last week, showing his quickness in the post and hustle.

He told us that he's hearing from Washington, Utah, Oregon State, USC, Dayton, Fresno State and Santa Clara. "I think Oregon State and Dayton are showing the most interest," he said.

As of late last week, no programs had offered. "But Oregon State and Dayton have said they were close to offering, and USC has also."

Simpson said he's looking for a nice environment to go to college. "I want it to be a good place, a good location. It doesn't matter if it's on the west coast or east coast. I like new things and new experiences."

Simpson said that early playing time isn't a big factor in his mind. "I look at it that if you're good you'll eventually get playing time," he said.

Simpson indicated he has a 2.9 GPA and hadn't taken the SAT yet. He didn't do well on the PSAT, but he said he's now taking a class and will be prepared when he takes the SAT in the fall.
