Best of Summer: Day Three

Eric Van Vliet, Jarrell Lake and Omar Samhan were among the players who impressed us yesterday...

The Best of Summer tournament moved into bracket play yesterday and there should be some good match-ups today. Most of the weaker teams have now been eliminated. EBO, however, which won the Adidas Super 64, was knocked out last night by the Playaz team featuring Brandon Costner.

Here's a look at some players who impressed us yesterday.

Jarrell Lake, 6-6 SR PF/SF Los Angeles (Calif.) Westchester. Lake is a four right now, but he's rapidly moving to the three. A terrific athlete, Lake is more skilled than we thought. He's got a nice stroke with three-point range, he can finish at the rim and he's an underrated passer. We think he has a chance to play at the high major level.

Eric Van Vliet, 6-8 SR C Santa Cruz (Calif.) High. Van Vliet showed more offensive game than we'd seen in the past, including a very nice left-handed jump hook. He's hearing from several mid major programs.

Omar Samhan, 6-10 SR C San Ramon (Calif.) San Ramon Valley. Samhan has lost weight in recent months and his play has improved. He's got very good feet and nice hands. With more weight loss, and some time in the weight room, he has a chance to be a nice player at the mid major level.

Tyler Nixon, 6-5 SR SF Buckley (Wash.) White River. We got our second look at Nixon yesterday and we continue to be impressed. Good length, plays hard, handles well – he's a potential low to mid major prospect.
