Eaton Knows Three Visits

Not many point guards excelled this summer but Byron Eaton is the exception. We ranked him No. 26 before the summer and he made us look good. Now Eaton is beginning to narrow his recruiting focus.

Byron Eaton, a 5-foot-11 point guard out of Dallas (Tex.) Lincoln, shared co-MVP honors at Reebok ABCD Camp with a host of players. The Dallas Mustangs guard had himself a fine July and cemented his status among the best players at his position. In reality, his play was merely a continuance of what he was doing this spring, but for whatever reason, more folks took notice last month.

The powerful Eaton, also a football player (will he give the sport up?) was very pleased with his summer. "For the summer, I think I had a really good summer," Eaton said. "I think my ranking should go up a little bit because I had a good summer."

Rumors began circulating in late July that Eaton would join an already powerful recruiting class at Oklahoma State on August 1. Well, that date has come and gone without a decision from the guard. Eaton says he found the source of the rumor.

"I'm not going to say it was going to happen. I wasn't going to commit or anything. I think Gerald Green was telling everybody [I was going to commit]." Wishful thinking on Green's part and in the end he could prove correct, just not anytime soon.

Eaton says his top two are the Cowboys and Cincinnati and he's going to take some visits. SMU, Texas A&M and LSU are in the mix and could move up.

"They have to keep recruiting me, that's it," Eaton said of the other programs. "I want to try to sign in the first signing point. Right now, I know I'm going to take at least three visits."

OSU, Cincy and SMU are locks to receive officials and he'll begin taking them the first week of September.
