Downey Shaves His List

Devan Downey couldn't do it. The Chester (S.C.) High point guard wasn't able to narrow his focus all the way down to five schools. However, he did get close.

After watching college programs from the Midwest and Southeast trail him around all summer, Devan Downey finally decided to remove some of the gray area from his recruitment. The 5-foot-10 point guard from Chester (S.C.) High trimmed his list to six schools.

"In no order, they're Maryland, Cincinnati, Arkansas, Tennessee, Miami and South Carolina," Downey said.

As of today, Downey doesn't have any visits set up but is sure that Maryland and Cincinnati will receive trips and is close to being able to commit to Arkansas for a visit as well.

"I want to go somewhere where I'm wanted and needed," Downey said. "I don't want to go somewhere because I'm a good player; I want to help the program.

Downey won't fail for any recruiting jargon either. If a school has too many guards he'll find out. If they run too many combos, he'll notice. He wants to fastbreak and lead the break. "I don't want to go nowhere that has a whole lot of guards. I don't want a place that has two or three point guards or four guards that can play the point."

Downey has posted a test score that is close to being a qualifying score. Regardless, he'll be able to set up visits ASAP and school begins this week for him. Maryland has mentioned the weekend of August 28th as a potential visit weekend but nothing has been locked down yet.

Downey entered the summer at the No. 38 prospect in America and No. 6 point guard.
