Fred Washington, 6-5 JR SF Torrance (Calif.) Bishop Montgomery, is a versatile lefty with a well-rounded game. We spoke with him recently at the Pacific Shores tournament.
Fred told us that Stanford, Kansas, Notre Dame, UC Santa Barbara, Oregon and Oregon St. are showing the most interest so far. Both of Fred's parents went to UCLA, so we asked about the Bruins. "They haven't shown much interest yet," Fred said. "They did send a questionnaire."
We asked if there was a particular part of the country that interests him and Fred replied, "I have some family near Stanford. I have some cousins in Sacramento."
Fred said that coaching will be a big factor in his decision. "Coaching will be big," Fred said. "I want a good coach who can make me better."
Early playing time will not be an important issue, according to Fred. "Winning is more important than playing right away. I'm willing to wait for time as long as I'm improving."
Fred told us that he has a 4.0 GPA and he'll take the SAT soon.
