Derrick Brown Reaches Decision

Derrick Brown saw all he needed to see this weekend on his Atlantic-10 recruiting visit. The Ohio standout committed during his official visit.

Sean Miller, the new head coach at Xavier, has himself a pair of recruits in the Class of 2005. During his official campus visit, Derrick Brown made it official and gave Miller his word that he would be playing college basketball for the Musketeers.

"I did [commit], trust me," the 6-foot-7 power forward said Sunday afternoon.

"I felt most comfortable there. They've just been there the longest and the hardest and it's the best of both worlds. It's great academically and I love the basketball team. I feel confident that Sean Miller is going to take my game to the highest level. What really did it was the players. They just took me in more than any other school."

Brown, who rolled with Cincinnati AAU this summer and plays high school ball for Dayton Chaminade-Juliene, had nothing but kind words for the schools that recruited him throughout the process. Some had picked up other targets but Brown enjoyed the dealings he had with them.

"I want to commend Dayton and Wake Forest and Michigan State and North Carolina State for recruiting me. They did an excellent job recruiting me."

Brown had some struggles in the summer from a scoring standpoint, but is pumped up the future of Xavier basketball and his role in the program.

"No. 1, any successful career for me is winning a national championship," Brown said. "Personally, I'd like to make first team all-conference and be player of the year eventually. I'd like to play in the NBA.

"Me and B.J. [Raymond] are going to go in there and do some work and take this program to another level."
