2006's Kreft Headed To ACC

Jonathan Kreft, a 7-foot center out of Parkland (Fla.) Douglas, is headed to the ACC. Just a junior, Kreft made his decision this week.

The Florida State Seminoles have landed their first recruit from the Class of 2006. Jonathan Kreft, a big 7-0, 240 pound center out of Parkland (Fla.) Douglas, committed to the school this week.

Kreft visited campus last January but said now was the time to decide so that he could focus on improving his game. "I was told that it would take a lot of stress off of everyone else and it would help me focus on improving during the school year," Kreft said. "Now no coaches will bother me. Everything can calm down and I can start concentrating [on basketball]."

Last season, according to Kreft, he averaged 16 points, 8 rebounds and 5 blocks. He also received interest from Miami but FSU had an "in" with him.

"I liked the school. I went up and visited and [Leonard Hamilton] is a family friend of ours. He's got a nice record of helping players. Once I saw the campus I decided to go there."

Kreft attended the 2004 Nike All-American Camp in Indianapolis. "My strengths are playing in the post. Anything in the post I can pretty much do. I have a decent jump shot from mid-range and I'm working on my forward position."

Kreft will run on the traveling team circuit with the South Florida Heat.
