Hale Decides In Favor of Wake

Harvey Hale is headed to Wake Forest. The Rio Grande senior guard made his commitment known Tuesday morning.

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons have added a third player to their 2005 recruiting class. Joining Top 100 prospect Kevin Swinton and big man David Weaver is 6-foot-2 combo guard Harvey Hale, a senior out of Albuquerque (N.M.) Rio Grande.

"Harvey Hale has officially committed and Wake Forest has officially accepted," Rio Grande head coach Ron Garcia said.

Hale, a standout in the classroom and on the court was going to visit the Deacons the weekend of Sept. 25. However, with him now being committed, there stands a chance that Hale could come the weekend of Sept. 10 so that he has a chance to meet his future teammates who will also be in town.

Arkansas, SMU, DePaul, Baylor and Stanford showed interest but in the end, Wake Forest and Skip Prosser emerged as the clear cut choice.

"No. 1 reason is Coach Prosser," Garcia said. "I knew of him and had seen him coach. He's in it for the long haul. A lot of his kids do graduate and he runs a disciplined program and is very successful. Academically, it's a tremendous school."
