It's Over! Smith To Tennessee

The Tennessee Volunteers snagged their top recruit and the guy the program needed to land this weekend. Tyler Smith was on campus and Buzz Peterson locked him. Here's what Smith had to say about the Vols.

Tyler Smith, a 6-foot-6 small forward out of Pulaski (Tenn.) Giles County, was very important to the 2005 recruiting efforts of Buzz Peterson. On Saturday night, Smith told the staff that he wanted to be a Volunteer.

"There was no other way that I wanted to have it than to go to Tennessee," Smith said. "I felt it was like home. It's an in-state school. There's good people here. How can you not feel at home?"

Smith, ranked No. 49 by TheInsiders.com, was the key player that Buzz Peterson and his staff targeted this summer. Peterson followed Smith around religiously and speculation that Smith would reciprocate the interest had run wild for the last few weeks.

The commitment is an important one for the Volunteers as they look to lock down the best players in the state. With Smith's reputation and successes on the high school level in the Volunteer State, this was a young man they needed to land and did.
