Downey Commits To Bearcats

Devan Downey saw all he needed to see on a weekend visit. The Top 40 prospect in the country made an official visit and ended his recruitment before getting back on the plane.

The beauty of Devan Downey, a sub 6-foot point guard out of Chester High in South Carolina is that he plays the game with a chip on his shoulder. He's not big but he's tough as nails and steps up when challenged. He's just the kind of guy Bob Huggins would enjoy coaching. Turns out he'll get that chance.

During Downey's official visit to Cincinnati the point guard committed to the Bearcats.

"I'm excited," Downey said. "I loved the whole visit, the coaching staff and the players.

"The program sells itself. Hugs likes to run up and down. It's a good fit because I can come in and use my speed. Plus, they are moving to the Big East and that's going to be one of the best basketball conferences in the country."

Though Illinois and Texas recently jumped into the mix and Arkansas had been a player as well, there were always rumors swirling that Cincinnati was the behind the scenes leader for his services.

"They've been my leader but I never did come out and say that. I never did show them or tell that they were leading. They told me that they were happy and they were going to love coaching me."

This is a big time addition for the Bearcats who had been searching for a top notch point guard out of this current class. Downey goes baseline to baseline with the best in the business. His jumpshot is trustworthy and he's got a lot of gumption.
