``It was a long process and I think going to Georgetown is a good situation for me in the long run – both with basketball and academically," Spann said.
Spann's lone official visit was to Georgetown in early September, but he took numerous unofficial trips.
``He's versatile, can handle it and is just so big," Georgia Stars coach Norman Parker said. "He's definitely got a college body. He can rebound, is really good in the paint – but needs to work on his outside shot and his perimeter game."
The knock on Spann is consistency, but in his defense, he played much of the summer with an ankle injury.
``He can rebound and play in the paint as well as just about anyone his size," added Parker.
