Oregon State Scores Commitment

The Oregon State Beavers have been busy the past few days. Jay John's team took another commitment this weekend and more are on the way.

College basketball is a relationship driven business and over the weekend, Oregon State leveraged a previous relationship into a brand new commitment.

According to his father, 6-foot-9 Calvin Hampton committed to the Oregon State Beavers. Hampton is a post-grad at New Hampton under the tutelage of Coach Jamie Arsenault.

"He's got a lot of potential and I think Jay John is the guy who can get it out of him," O.J. Brooks, Hampton's father said.

Brooks, a former junior college player, once laced them up for John and was a teammate of current Beavers assistant coach Kevin Mouton. The family felt extremely comfortable with John and his staff.

"Me and Kevin [Mouton] are family and I played for Jay John in junior college," Brooks said. "The visit was perfect. Jay's a big man coach."

Just last week, Oregon State landed point guard Josh Tarver so the Beavers are in commitment mode and they probably aren't done. There is a good chance that the Beavers can score a commitment for current Compton Community College standout Wesley Washington, a former L.A.-area star.

But wait, there could be more. The Beavers are rumored to be involved with a foreign big man who is likely to be eligible this fall. We could learn this week that OSU will sign a 6-foot-11 center from Croatia.
