Taggart Halts Recruitment With Commitment

You could almost see this one this one coming. Mount Zion big man Shawn Taggart, according to his high school coach, is headed to play in the Big 12.

One visit and boom, Shawn Taggart was ready to commit. The 6-foot-9+ big man out of Durham (N.C.) Mount Zion by way of Richmond, Va., is headed to Iowa State.

"Shawn Taggart is committing to Iowa State," Mighty Warriors coach Antonio Fozard said. "That's today, that's official and that's done."

Taggart will cancel scheduled visits to St. John's and Florida State. Virginia Tech was also in the mix but had its visit cancelled last weekend and Memphis was once a player as well.

Mount Zion and Iowa State have hooked up before. In fact, just last year, the Cyclones successfully recruited then Mount Zion point guard Tasheed Carr. That relationship didn't hurt this time around either.

"I think more so with Tasheed out there it played a big impact," Fozard said. "That's not the reason why he's going there. Wayne Morgan put a great impression on him and the coaching staff did a great job recruiting him. They stayed in contact and let him know that he was their only option.

"He'll work well up there with Tasheed being familiar with Shawn offensively."
