Red Storm, Trojans Land Centers

A pair of junior college big men made their college choices this past weekend. Julius Lamptey and Aaron Spears ended their recruitments.

The St. John's Red Storm hosted Highlands Junior College center Aaron Spears on his official visit this weekend. Upon completion of the visit, according to sources, Spears committed to the Red Storm.

Spears, an Illinois native, began his playing career in Champaign for the Illini before transferring to a junior college. He was recruited to play at Illinois by then UI assistant coach Norm Roberts, the current head coach at St. John's.

Spears is a load inside and was recruited to play the high-low offense at Illinois, the same sort of offense Roberts will employ in the Big Apple.

Meanwhile, out in California, the Southern Cal Trogans procured a commitment from Garden City Junior College big man Julius Lamptey, according to a source close to the situation.

Lamptey is a 7-0 footer from the state of Oklahoma who was once AAU teammates with Kelenna Azubuike and Shelden Williams.

Southern Cal now has three commitments on the season. Recently the Trojans landed shooter Sead Odzic and forward Michael Freeman. Southern Cal assistant Eric Brown had a huge hand in the addition of Lamptey.
