Powerade Holiday Prep Classic

The Powerade Holiday Prep Classic concluded Saturday in Las Vegas. Championship teams for the top 3 divisions were Our Savior New American from New York, Inglewood and Calvary Chapel Downey...

The Powerade Holiday Prep Classic in Las Vegas didn't have quite the same star power as they've had in past years, but there were still plenty of talented players on hand. The tournament  featured five different divisions, but we spent most of our time watching the Millenium, Gold and Silver brackets.

Our Savior New American, out of New York, won the Millenium Cup, as they defeated Bishop Gorman of Las Vegas 55-39. Our Savior was led by Juan Palacios with 20 points, and Omar Sylla, who had 17. Sylla, a smooth shooting small forward, was named Millenium Cup MVP. Tennessee bound C.J. Watson led Bishop Gorman with 12 points.

Inglewood (Calif.), led by MVP D'Angelo Collins, defeated Cheyenne of Las Vegas 55-46 to win the Gold Cup. Collins had 21 points in the championship game, while Kevin Richardson led Cheyenne with 12.

In the Silver Cup division, Calvary Chapel Downey (Calif.) defeated Chugiak (Alaska) 63-56. Tim Drisdom was the MVP of the Silver division and he had 21 points in the win. Junior small forward Chris Devine was the leading scorer for Chugiak with 17.

We'll have more reports on the tournament in the next couple days, with evaluations on some of the top players, including David Paris, Robert Swift, D'Angelo Collins, Jayson Obazuaye, C.J. Watson, Antonio Porch and many others.
