JMU Lands Key Backcourt Target

Tabor Academy guard Colby Santos is heading to the Colonial Athletic Association. Santos made his decision over the weekend.

Dean Keener, the new head coach at James Madison, landed a very good recruit this past weekend. Combo guard Colby Santos, a 6-foot-5 standout from Tabor Academy in Massachusetts, picked the Dukes over New Mexico and Old Dominion after hearing from Providence and Massachusetts.

Last season, Santos averaged 16 points, 6 assists and 5 rebounds as a junior.

"I think it was a combination of things: the schedule that they play and the conference that they play in was appealing," TA coach David Newman said. "He got to know and liked the coaching staff."

Santos ran with BABC last summer and attended the Nike All-American Camp in recent summers.

"Right now the improvement that he's made in the last year has been great. He's really increased his shooting range and he sees the floor right now. To be effective right away he's got to get stronger and put on some weight in his upper body. He's improved his vertical and his range has gotten better and he's getting to the rim stronger."
