Chris Howard Headed South

Chris Howard was getting some interest from bigger schools, but the former Friendly High (Md.) and current Notre Dame Prep (Mass.) floor leader decided to go with one that had been on him for a while.

Chris Howard got a few big-time looks, but he didn't want to play the waiting game – so he committed to South Florida shortly after taking an official visit to the school earlier this month.

``They have recruited me well and I felt comfortable with the staff," Howard said. "It felt like a place I can fit in. I had a lot of other bigger schools, but South Florida stayed with me and be persistent. They really wanted me."

Howard is a stocky, 6-4, 200-pound point guard who averaged 20 points, 10 assists and 4 rebounds at Friendly High (Md.) last season.

Howard is a good outside shooter who can finish and also makes good decisions, but his quickness is in question, especially having to guard smaller defenders, until he gets into better shape.

Howard said that Illinois, Purdue, UMass and Boston College were all keeping tabs on his progress at Notre Dame Prep.
