Pirates Go Into Jersey For Recruit

The East Carolina Pirates went back up north to find their latest commitment. This time they plucked a kid out of St. Benedict's in New Jersey.

Bill Herrion and his staff appear to be ahead of the curve on this one. This week, the Pirates landed a commitment from 6-foot-8 Dwight Burke, a power forward at St. Benedict's in New Jersey.

"He's very much an unknown," Gray Bees coach Dan Hurley said. "He played two years at Christiana High in Delaware and one at Rice and then transferred here. He's raw but has very good upside."

Burke was intriguing to a lot of schools who went in to see guys like Lance Thomas and Corey Stokes during the fall period. Apparently, he made an impression on recruiters who were making plans on recruiting him through the spring.

"Schools that have come in to see Lance or Corey Stokes and Eugene [Harvey] have all said to me that they would recruit him late if they had scholarships. He's physical, rebounds and is above average athletically."
