Jones Still in Wait Mode

Bobby Jones, the 6-6 senior small forward from Long Beach Poly, is probably the highest-ranked, qualified prospect on the west coast still available, and college coaches are lobbying for him...

Bobby Jones, 6-6 SR SF, Long Beach (Calif.) Poly, is a rare commodity this time of year. He's a top 100 national player, according to many ratings services, and one of the top 25 players on the west coast -- and he's qualified and uncommitted.

Jones said last week that he chose to wait rather than signing in the early signing period to see if he'd have other schools recruit him spring.  "I just wanted to see what my other options could be," Jones said.

Right now, Jones is being recruited by Boston College, New Mexico, Pepperdine, and Wyoming. He took an official visit to Pepperdine and said he might visit Boston College when they play Duke in January. But he added that he might not take any more official visits than those. "I might not. I might try to use more trips if I feel like it. But I don't think I need to take all my trips to decide."

Jones said right now his two favorites are Pepperdine and Boston College and that the two "are pretty even."  He said it's not that critical that he stay close to home, but his parents would prefer he stay close, which might ultimately give an edge to Pepperdine.
