Sources: Hendrix Makes Decision

Richard Hendrix won't make his decision official until Tuesday afternoon, but has found out, through sources, where the Athens High (Ala.) star is headed.

In the end, the lure of staying home proved too much for Richard Hendrix.

The Athens High (Ala.) 6-8, 245-pound senior power forward will choose Alabama over North Carolina at a news conference on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m., according to sources close to the situation.

``It's a done deal," one of the sources said. "He's going to Alabama."

Hendrix (No. 8, is a relentless inside presence who scores in the paint and controls both ends of the glass. He's strong, powerful and has terrific footwork and an attitude to match. He averaged 22.4 points and 13.6 boards per game last season and led Athens High to a 33-3 record and an appearance in the Class 5A state title game.

Hendrix has 2,078 points, 1,289 rebounds and 467 blocks in his career.

Hendrix, a 3.6 student in the classroom, took official trips to both schools way back in May and obviously wrestled with the decision, especially since he's not one looking for attention.

However, the emergence of the Crimson Tide in the national spotlight and his familiarity with the area and the coaching staff evidently proved the difference for the 17-year-old Hendrix, who has made it no secret that he will entertain the possibility of heading straight to the NBA if he's projected as a high pick.
