Eddie Griffin Challenge This Saturday

The second annual Eddie Griffin Challenge tips this weekend in New Jersey. Once again, the event is loaded up with talent from Philadelphia and New Jersey.

Last year's Eddie Griffin Challenge was such a hit that they decided to make it an annual fall event. The concept of the three-game series is basically for bragging rights as the best sophomores, juniors and seniors from New Jersey lace them up against the best from Philadelphia.

With games beginning at 4 p.m. at The Barn Gymnasium on the campus of Rutgers, Saturday afternoon will be packed with names you'll be sure to recognize.

Leading the Jersey boys in the seniors game will be N.C. State bound forward Brandon Costner and recent UConn commitment Andrew Bynum. However, they'll be joined by all the big time names in their class. Vernon Goodridge heads up the Philly contingent. Ryan Ayers, Shane Clark and Stephen Jackson provide the perimeter firepower.

The junior game should be of great interest as a number of high-profile players are scheduled to attend. Jersey will be paced by the trio of Derrick Character, Lance Thomas and Eugene Harvey. Brian Zoubek anchors the interior game for New Jersey. Wayne Ellington and Gerald Henderson are going to need big games for the Philly boys to keep pace with the Jersey crew.

And finally, the sophomore game should be quite exciting with a host of young players slated to be in attendance. Philly's got Bradley Wannemaker and Antonio Jardine while Jersey counters with Corey Fisher and Corey Stokes, a pair of highly regarded 2007 studs.

Bragging rights are on the line at the Eddie Griffin Challenge and this event is one of the more important things we cover this fall. Toss in a handful of future burger game participants and you can't ask for more in an afternoon.

Scout.com will bring you all the action from Saturday's event plus we'll have coverage of the Apple vs. The Empire game on Sunday. This one-day event matches top players from the city of N.Y. against players from around the state.
