Mikel Watson, 6-1 JR PG San Diego (Calif.) El Camino, has improved considerably since we last saw him and he'll be among the top tier of point guards when we update our rankings. Long and quick, with a deadly outside shot, Watson completely dominated the one game we saw him play at the National Classic.
We spoke with Mikel after that game and he told us he's hearing from Stanford, Nebraska, Yale, Gonzaga, Liberty, San Diego, San Diego St. and Pepperdine, among others. He said that Arizona and UCLA were his two favorite schools growing up.
We asked what factors would influence his decision and Mikel said, "my relationship with the coach and how much time I can get."
Distance from home won't be an issue for Mikel, as he told us that he's open to leaving.
When questioned about which schools have shown the most interest so far, Mikel said, "Stanford and Nebraska."
Mikel also told us that he'd prefer to play at the highest level possible, if given a choice.
Mikel said that his GPA is 3.5 and he just took the SAT, but hasn't yet received his score.
