Lawrence Westbrook, 5-11 JR SG Chandler (Ariz.) High, is drawing interest from Memphis, Cal, USC, Depaul, Arizona State, Colorado, New Mexico and Syracuse, among other programs, according to his father.

We spoke with Mr. Westbrook this past weekend in Arizona and he gave us the latest on his son's recruitment.

"Lawrence is hearing from a lot of different programs," said Mr. Westbrook. "He's open to any school. I have a comfort level with the guys from Memphis -- I knew Calipari at UMass -- and I also really like Ben Braun. He seems like a real gentleman -- a good guy. But Lawrence is in no rush to decide -- he has a lot of options."

Mr. Westbrook said going away to school is not a problem for Lawrence. "That's not an issue," said Mr. Westbrook. "But the Pac-10 does have a lot of good schools, with good competition, so that's a lot more appealing now."

Mr. Westbrook went on to say, "Playing time will be important."

UConn also has a connection to the Westbrook family. "I played for George Blaney at Holy Cross," said Mr. Westbrook.

We asked if there are any programs that Lawrence will definitely visit and Mr. Westbrook replied, "I definitely see him visiting Cal."

Lawrence has a 3.7 GPA according to his father.
