Antonio Lawrence's Mysterious Recruitment

Antonio Lawrence moved to the west coast for his senior season and is now playing at San Joaquin Memorial. We caught up with the athletic two guard after his game Saturday at Lynwood High...

Antonio Lawrence, 6-4 SG Fresno (Calif.) San Joaquin Memorial, is a prospect with potential who has been somewhat overhyped by national scouts enthralled with his athleticism. Lawrence has some ability, and he can run and jump with anyone, but his feel for the game could use some work and he needs to learn how to play within a team concept.

While we don't view Lawrence as a top 50 national prospect, we're still puzzled by the way his recruitment has gone. He told us Saturday that he's passed the SAT and is on track to qualify. But he hasn't received a lot of attention at the high major level. At least, not what you'd expect given where he's ranked by many national services.

Antonio told us that he has been hearing from Florida St., Fresno St., UCLA, Texas, Indiana and UConn. But he said he doesn't really know what's going on, as his mother is handling everything.

He did also tell us that he loves the west coast and plans on signing as late as possible.
