Watkins Eligible To Play Soon

Not many people are aware of this outside of New Jersey, but one of the best big men in the Class of 2003 hasn't played a game yet this year. In about a week, that will all change.

Watkins Ready To Take The Court

Sometimes, high school basketball mimics the college game. For Paterson Catholic junior center Darryl Watkins it most certainly does.

Last year, Watkins played high school basketball for Wayne (NJ) Passaic Tech. Midway through the year, he transferred to his present school, Paterson Catholic. However, Watkins was ruled ineligible to play until Jan. 15.

Despite not having played yet this season, Watkins is no stranger to college recruiters. Last summer, he was dominant at times for the Tim Thomas Playaz. He's a developing big man with a propensity to reject shots at a good clip. His offense seemingly was coming along, but there aren't 25 better prospects in the class than Watkins.

So far this season, he's kept to himself, attending just one college game. He watched Seton Hall play this season and the Pirates are pursuing him. So is Syracuse and Villanova. Watkins is interested in Duke and North Carolina.
