2003 Spotlight: Monty St. Clair

Roger Bacon narrowly missed a chance to defeat nationally ranked St. Vincent-St. Mary's. Junior forward Monty St. Clair says Bacon will get them the next time around. Meanwhile, St. Clair is stringing together a fine season.

St. Clair Is A Big Man To Watch

The Slam Dunk To The Beach was one of the first truly national stages Cincinnati (OH) Roger Bacon power forward Monty St. Clair. Surrounded by good seniors like Josh Hausfeld, Frank Phillips and Beckham Wyrick, St. Clair distinguished himself.

He's a 6-8 forward with good scoring tools around the basket and a nice frame. Colleges have him on their "watch list" as the season rolls on. He's averaging 13 points and 7 rebounds for a talented, senior-laden team.

St. Clair credits distinguished Cincinnati AAU coach Mike Price with his development. "Over the summer, I worked out with coach Price," St. Clair said. "I went from being a quiet 3-man to scoring a lot inside. I have much better post moves than from last March."

Schools are taking notes. Tulane watched him play last Friday and was in town on Monday to watch him workout. Ohio State, Notre Dame and Purdue are monitoring him. The Buckeyes are very strong with him. He's been to Columbus for an unofficial visit. He had to cancel unofficials to Notre Dame and Purdue, but it's likely he'll be on those campuses before too long.
