Catamounts Strike In 2006

The Western Carolina Catamounts are going to keep a local prospect home. This week, Steve Shurina's Catamounts scored a commitment from a 2006 forward.

Jake Robinson, a 6-foot-6 small forward out of Pisgah (N.C.) High, committed to the Catamounts Thursday morning. Robinson is Western Carolina's first committed recruit in the Class of 2006.

Last season, the forward averaged 19 points and 8 rebounds. He's best known for his touch on the perimeter. He ran with the Charlotte Royals on the traveling team circuit last summer.

"I took a visit and got to know the players and the staff there," Robinson said. "I really liked it and its 45 minutes from home. I think I can get fan support there."

The Catamounts were the first program to step up and offer Robinson a scholarship. According to Robinson, Tennessee, Auburn and Miami-FL were keeping tabs on him.

Robinson is an important recruit for WCU. The area he's from is not known as a hot bed for basketball talent and it was important for the Catamounts to keep one of the best players in their area home. Last season, Robinson was an all-Western Carolina performer.

"Western is where I want to be and it's a great fit."
