Coleman Trying to Get Qualified

The 6-1 point guard, Jovance Coleman, would be among the best seniors at this position this season. He said he's now trying hard to get qualified academically...

Jovance Coleman, 6-1 SR PG, Fresno (Calif.) Washington Union, has been looking very good his senior season. He's athletic and strong, with nice skills, and just too big and quick for guards to keep with him.

Coleman is good enough that the Pac-10 would be taking serious looks at him -- or would have signed him in fall -- had it not been for the snag: academics.

"I'm trying hard now to get qualified," Coleman said. "I'm studying hard."

Coleman said he currently has a 2.5 GPA but hasn't achieved a qualifying test score. Heis, though, working with two different tutors and going to SAT study course at night.  He'll take the take later this month again.

Most college programs are taking a wait-and-see approach, but Coleman has heard from Oregon State, Fresno State and Wyoming. Fresno State has offered.
