Top 10 Prep Poll

Laurinburg got tested by a pair of New England schools this past weekend at the CSG National Prep Showcase, but thanks to a strong effort late by Robert Dozier against Brewster Academy, they remained unbeaten.

1.  LAURINBURG INSTITUTE (N.C.)
Record:14-0
Comments:After rolling to an easy win against former No. 8 Notre Dame Prep, Chris Chaney's club was tested against Bridgton and was nearly knocked off by Brewster. Roburt Sallie (Washington) put up 17 in the 22-point win over Bridgton while Robert Dozier came up huge down the stretch as Laurinburg overcame a big deficit to knock off Brewster, 96-92.
2.  HARGRAVE MILITARY ACADEMY (VA.)
Record:6-0
Comments:So far, it's been the Sam Young show - as the relentless undersized power forward has been virtually unstoppable. Young (Pittsburgh) had 21 points and 14 boards in a 77-59 win against St. Thomas More and finished with 31 in a 79-75 victory over South Kent. Maryland-bound forward Shane Clark added 18 in the win over STM.
3.  LUTHERAN CHRISTIAN (PA.)
Record:9-0
Comments:Admittedly, we didn't know how good these guys were entering the season. Despite Vernon Goodridge's offensive struggles, The Crusaders reeled off three wins - over former No. 2 Winchendon, No. 4 South Kent and No. 8 Notre Dame Prep. Maurice Thomas had 17 in a win over Winchendon and Dionte Christmas scored 20 against Winchendon.
4.  BREWSTER ACADEMY (N.H.)
Record:2-1
Comments:We've taken shots at Jason Smith in the past for dodging some of the big boys, but he and his group showed they can hang with anybody. Brewster controlled the game for 38 minutes against top-ranked Laurinburg before succumbing, 96-92. Chris Lutz (Purdue) and Jeff Adrien (UConn) came to play in the loss - Lutz had 23 and also scored 25 in a victory over Our Savior New American.
5.  FORK UNION MILITARY ACADEMY (VA.)
Record:2-0
Comments:Fletcher Arritt doesn't have any big names, but the veteran coach proved he doesn't really need them. Wins against his former pupil, Mike Byrnes and Winchendon, and another big-time prep coach, Jere Quinn at St. Thomas More, have these guys in the top five. Mason Wooldridge had 21 points in the win over Winchendon.
6.  BRIDGTON ACADEMY (MAINE)
Record:4-1
Comments:When you lose by more than 20 points, it may not look pretty - but looks can be deceiving - and they were in the case of Bridgton's 22-point loss to No. 1 Laurinburg. Bridgton had little problems with Life Center in a 98-47 rout and also knocked off Blair, 78-73, behind Wayne Hunter (St. Mary's) and his 23 points.
7.  SOUTH KENT (CONN.)
Record:3-2
Comments:After victories against Berean Institute and Our Savior to start the season, Raphael Chillious' squad lost two straight at the CSG National Prep Showcase against Lutheran Christian and Hargrave. Rob Thomas averaged 31.5 points in the two losses and had 14 in a victory over Coastal Christian.
8.  WORCESTER ACADEMY (MASS.)
Record:2-0
Comments:Second-year coach Ed Reilly and his squad, which is led by shooter Jim Baron (URI), to a pair of wins against Champlain St. Lambert and Life Center. Baron scored 32 and had eight trifectas against Champlain while Kyle Swantson added 21 and Philip Okonma chipped in 17.
9.  ST. THOMAS MORE (CONN.)
Record:2-2
Comments:In a minor surprise, Jere Quinn & Co. suffered a pair of losses to Hargrave and Fork Union to open the CSG National Prep Showcase before rebounding with a victory against Champlain St. Lambert. Antonio Pena struggled in the Hargrave game, but averaged 16.5 points in the next two games.
10.  NORTHFIELD MOUNT HERMON (MASS.)
Record:0-0
Comments:Unable to play in the CSG National Prep Showcase, it's difficult to see where they stack up just yet - but time will tell. Led by 7-foot Washington-bound big man Joe Wolfinger, point guard Alvin Lewis (Cal-Irvine) and unsigned forward Colin McIntosh, Bill Batty may just have his most talented group ever.
Dropped Out:

No. 2 Winchendon (Mass.)

No. 8 Notre Dame Prep (Fitchburg, Mass.)

No. 10 Coastal Christian Academy - TSI (Virginia Beach, Va.)
