No. 64 Fields Makes His Pick

Levance Fields ended his recruitment Monday evening. The Brooklyn (N.Y.) Xaverian product will play in the Big East.

It came down to a pair of Big East schools and Pittsburgh narrowly edged out St. John's for No. 9 point guard Levance Fields. The 6-foot-1 Fields, ranked No. 64 in the country, rolled with the Gauchos last summer.

Fields said that he was sold on Pittsburgh after a visit to the campus. "I pretty much liked it after my first visit," Fields said. "I just wanted to go with a few more things before I decided what to do. I wasn't sure if I wanted to go there or St. John's and I finally decided on Pittsburgh."

Last season, Fields averaged 16 points a contest. The Panthers are bracing themselves for the possible departure of Carl Krauser and Fields will be a nice replacement should he turn pro.

"Hopefully things will work out like they should and [Carl] Krauser will be in the NBA. Then I think I can get in there and play instantly. With Coach Dixon being a point guard in his day he likes guards and they play three of them."
