2006 Focus: Zach Evans

Zach Evans, a 6-6 small forward from Southern California, has a wide variety of schools expressing interest in him...

Zach Evans, 6-6 JR SF West Hills (Calif.) Chaminade, is an intriguing prospect with great potential. He's got good size and a very good feel for the game. With an improved shot, he could be a player that emerges as a top prospect in the next year.

We spoke with Evans last night and asked about the schools he's heard from to date.

"Colorado State, Loyola Marymount, Arizona State, Boston University, Western Michian, Minnesota, Davidson, Columbia, Northwestern -- those are some of them off the top of my head," said Evans.

Evans talked about the issues he'll consider when making his choice. "Location isn't a big issue," said Evans. "It'd be nice to stay close to my family, but if there's a better option on the East Coast, I'd take it. I'm looking for somewhere that I like the program, the coach and where they have good academics."

Evans doesn't have a timetable for making a decision. "However much time it takes," said Evans. "I'd like to wait to see what offers I get, but if there's a great offer out there, I'll take it."

When asked if there are any programs in particular that he favors, Evans replied, "Davidson, because of the academics. Also Minnesota, the Pac-10 schools and Boston University is another one."

Evans told us he has a 3.4 GPA and he has yet to take the SAT.
