Done Deal: Sanders Commits To UNC

North Carolina is done recruiting players in the Class of 2002. During a recent official visit to campus, the Tar Heels added power forward Byron Sanders.

Fifth Recruit Is Another Big Man

North Carolina started the year searching for big men and it ended its current recruiting campaign by adding three interior players. The latest to enlist with Matt Doherty is 6-9 Byron Sanders of Gulfport (MS) Harrison Central.

"I just liked the campus and the players," Sanders said. "I'm going to play the power forward and later on might move up to the 3-man."

Sanders might have been an unlikely target for UNC at the beginning of the season but as far as spring signees go, he fits the profile: size, decent athleticism and qualified. Sanders wasn't surprised UNC came calling. "Not really, I guess I figured if I worked harder I thought I would be able to (play at UNC)."

UNC's last three additions have been bigs: Sean May, Damion Grant and Sanders. They join ultra-talented point guard Raymond Felton and winger Rashad McCants in forming one of the nation's best recruiting classes to date.
