Richard Is One To Watch For

Looking for a diamond in the rough in the Class of 2003? Well, look no further than Lakeland (FL) Kathleen. On campus you'll find 6-8 forward Chris Richard.

Improving Game Leading To Interest

Chris Richard isn't the same guy he was last year. Not even close.

"I've gone from three minutes a game to big minutes," Richard said. "I put on another inch, inch and half." Richard is a terrific power forward athlete. He's not in this class right now, but he's kind of a smaller Chris Wilcox. He's not as far along as Wilcox was at the same stage, but considering the improvement he's made from year to year, he's an excellent prospect.

Kathleen hasn't lost since a few setbacks in the City of Palms. "I don't think we should have lost that game to Tabor," Richard said. "Nobody came out to play and we knew we couldn't finish first."

So, Kathleen has regrouped and has its sights set on another state title. "I think we can do it. If everybody comes to play, I don't think we'll lose another game to anybody."

Richard, a 3.2 student with a qualifying ACT score, says he's averaging about 16 points and 9 rebounds. He says that he's receiving interest from Florida, Auburn, Maryland, UConn and Miami. He says he's hearing from a lot of teams on the eastern seaboard.

Last year, he moonlighted on the same AAU team with Amare Stoudemire. "That didn't work out because he was the No. 1 player in the nation and we played the same position and he was barely coming out." This year, you can catch Richard with the Tallahassee Wildcats where coach John Adkins won't be taking him out of the lineup much.
